certified & SustaiNable
We believe great hops start with great land—and it’s our job to protect it. That’s why we’ve invested in practices that support long-term soil health, water conservation, and ecosystem balance.
-
Salmon safe
Flathead Valley Hops is proud to be Salmon Safe Certified, ensuring our practices protect local waterways and wildlife, keeping our farm's impact clean and sustainable.
-
Good Bines
We are part of Good Bines, an initiative supporting sustainable and responsible hop farming across the U.S.
-
soil stewardship
Between our rows, we plant cover crops to naturally boost soil fertility, reduce erosion, and promote biodiversity — ensuring our land grows strong season after season.
-
composting
Post-harvest, all leftover hop bines are returned to the soil as nutrient-rich compost. Nothing goes to waste — everything goes back into the land.
wildlife habitat restoration
As part of our commitment to stewardship, we’ve helped restore a section of land into a thriving habitat primarily for waterfowl and native bird species. This area supports migration, nesting, and feeding for a wide range of birds that call the Flathead Valley home. It also provides natural forage for local deer and other wildlife, creating a safe haven away from development and urban sprawl. It’s our way of giving back to the land that gives so much to us.

what’s the big deal about german-style hops in the u.s.?
Thanks to our unique location on the 48th parallel, Montana’s cooler growing climate, and our rich, fertile soils, Flathead Valley Hops is perfectly suited to grow delicate, traditional German-style hops like Saaz and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh.
These noble hop varieties have been the backbone of European lagers and pilsners for centuries, prized for their subtle, balanced aromas and flavors. While craft beer has exploded with bold, hoppy styles, the timeless appeal of lighter, traditional beers remains strong—and that means the demand for these classic hops is steady and growing.
Growing German-style hops isn’t simple; they require just the right climate—cooler temperatures, long daylight hours, and well-managed soil conditions. Fortunately, Montana’s climate and our farming practices meet these needs, allowing us to produce hops that capture the character brewers expect.
If you’re crafting a pilsner, lager, or any beer where balance and tradition matter, we’d love to help you find the perfect hop variety that delivers exactly what your recipe calls for.
